A sectional can make a living room feel welcoming and easy to gather in, provided the scale and orientation suit the space. The right choice begins with a tape measure and a realistic plan for movement through the room.
Measure the room and the route in
Record the usable wall lengths, doorway widths, stair turns, and any narrow hallways between the entrance and the room. Compare those measurements with the product dimensions and delivery information shown on the current listing. A sofa that fits the floor plan still needs to make it through the home.
Protect the walking paths
Sketch the sectional footprint on paper or use painter’s tape on the floor. Leave a natural route between doors and the main seating area, and make sure drawers, cabinets, and nearby doors can open. The arrangement should feel comfortable from every entrance, not only from the sofa.
Choose chaise placement with the room in mind
Consider where you want the open side of the seating to face. A chaise can define a lounge zone, but it can also interrupt circulation if it points toward a doorway. If the room is open-plan, use the sectional to mark the living area while keeping the path to the dining zone clear.
